REMEMBERING WHITE LION

White Lion was a hard rock/heavy metal band that was based in New York City in the mid to late 1980s. The band consisted of Mike Tramp on vocals, Vito Bratta on lead guitar, James Lomenzo on bass, and Greg D'Angelo on drums. Their first album, Fight To Survive, was the heaviest of their albums. It was released in the U.S. in 1985 on Grand Slamm Records, a small independent label.

A record contract was then signed with Atlantic Records, and the band released Pride (1987), their best-selling album to date. It featured the hits "Wait" and "When The Children Cry", a favorite among beginning guitar players.

Big Game (1989) was not as big of a seller, but did produce a few hits, including "Little Fighter". The last album was Mane Attraction (1991). It featured the hits "Love Don't Come Easy" and "Broken Heart", which was originally released on "Fight To Survive".

The Best Of White Lion (1992) was the last release by the original band. The band broke up, due to small album sales and because of the change in the music industry from rock to alternative. Lomenzo worked with Zakk Wylde in the band Pride And Glory. Tramp worked with the group Freaks Of Nature, and is now a solo artist. D'Angelo worked in a recording studio, and Bratta remained dormant and out of the spotlight.

In 1998, rumors started circulating that White Lion might be reuniting. Vocalist Mike Tramp met with guitarist Vito Bratta in New York City, but the meeting was anything but successful. Tramp and Bratta both decided not to reunite the original band, so in 1999, Mike Tramp released the album Remembering White Lion on Deadline Records. The album consisted of remakes of White Lion songs, featuring Tramp and a backup band. It is doubtful that the band will reunite anytime soon.
